How do we actually start?

You book the Free Beginner Kickstart — a private intro lesson with an instructor plus your first class. It's by appointment so you get real one-on-one attention instead of being dropped into the back of a room. You'll leave knowing whether this is the right fit for your family. What should we wear the first time?

Comfortable clothes you can move in and bare feet — no uniform needed for the intro.

Do we need a uniform right away?

No. Uniforms come after you enroll. Our standard uniform is a white v-neck pullover top with white pants. Black Belt and Leadership students wear distinct uniforms they earn along the way.

How long is a class?

Classes run about 45 minutes to an hour depending on the program. Long enough to get real work in, short enough that kids stay locked in the whole time.

How often should we train?

We recommend one to two classes per week. That is the rhythm where progress actually sticks, and our evening schedule is built around working parents and school nights.

What are your class times?

Monday through Thursday, 4:00–8:00pm. Friday and Saturday are by appointment, and we can often arrange earlier weekday times if evenings don't work. Call us and we'll find a slot that fits.

Is my 3-year-old really old enough?

Yes — as long as they can follow a simple instruction and separate from you for a short class. Little Dragons is built around short, fast-changing activities that match a preschooler's attention span. Listening, balance, following directions, taking turns. The martial arts is the delivery system; the life skills are the point.

My kid won't sit still for anything. Will this work?

That's most of the room. We don't ask a 4-year-old to hold a stance for two minutes. We give them movement, structure, and constant wins — and the focus builds itself over the weeks.

Do I stay and watch?

Yes. Parents watch from the viewing area. Most families find the first few classes are easier for everyone when mom or dad is visible.

My child is shy or anxious — will this help?

This is exactly who traditional martial arts serves best. Confidence comes from earned skill, not pep talks. Small classes, instructors who never put a kid on the spot, and a belt system that gives them visible proof they're getting better. Parents usually notice posture and eye contact first.

My child is being bullied. Can this help?

Yes. We teach awareness, voice, and de-escalation long before any physical response — and confidence is what stops most bullying before it starts. Kids who carry themselves differently get treated differently.

Will this make my child more aggressive?

The opposite, consistently. Tae Kwon Do is built on discipline and respect. Kids learn that the skill only exists to protect, and that control is the whole point. Parents typically report a calmer, more focused kid at home and at school.

What if my child isn't athletic?

Perfect. There are no tryouts, no bench, and nobody gets cut. Every student progresses at their own pace against their own last belt — not against the kid next to them.

Is sparring required?

Controlled sparring comes later, with full protective gear and direct supervision. Nobody is thrown into contact before they're ready, and we tell you before it's part of your child's training.

Can I train with my kids?

That's how most of our adults start — and it's the best thing about this school. Family Martial Arts runs ages 6 through adult on the same floor, working the same curriculum at their own level. You're not sitting in the lobby scrolling; you're on the mat.

I'm out of shape and haven't trained in years. Am I too far gone?

No. Traditional Tae Kwon Do scales to the body you walked in with. You work at your level, and the conditioning shows up as a side effect of the training instead of a wall you have to climb first.

Can adults train without a kid enrolled?

Absolutely. Adults are welcome in the family classes on their own — plenty of our students started that way.

Is there a family rate?

How long does it take to earn a black belt?

For a committed student training one to two times a week, roughly four to five years. We don't sell belts. Every rank here is certified against a standard, and that's exactly why it means something when your child ties it on.

How often are certifications?

We call belt testing certification. Students certify when their instructor says they're ready — typically every few months. You'll always know well ahead of time what is being evaluated and what to work on.

What style do you teach?

Traditional Tae Kwon Do, taught on this floor since 1970 and family owned since 1986. Basics, kicking, partner work, self-defense, discipline, respect. We no longer teach forms — class time goes into technique and application instead.
